Aviation safety outreach by the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) was strengthened last week with a generous grant from the Wolf Aviation Fund to continue and expand SAFE – The Magazine, the society’s quarterly e-magazine.

This is the third grant made to SAFE by the Wolf Aviation Fund, which distributes grants to aviation organizations for promoting general aviation and the public’s understanding of it.

Recent issues of SAFE – The Magazine have included “IPC Dilemma: Is The System Broken?” “Carburetor Heat: The Rest Of The Story,” “A New Way To Create Professionals” and “Tailrotor Emergency: Sometimes The Book Is Not the Best.”

The magazine also includes practical help for secondary school teachers and other aviation educators in using aviation concepts to support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning as part of the organization’s effort to bring more youth into general aviation. The magazine is edited by Mark Phelps. “Our members are some of the top flight and aviation educators in the nation today,” said Doug Stewart, SAFE Executive Director. “Since most content for SAFE – The Magazine is member-contributed, there’s a depth of knowledge and experience unsurpassed by any other aviation-related publication. It’s written by professional aviation educators for the benefit of CFIs and teachers everywhere.”

Founded in 2009, SAFE provides mentoring, support and professional accreditation for its members.

The Wolf Aviation Fund was established by attorney Alfred L. Wolf, who learned to fly in 1929, helped found the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association in 1939 and went on to a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force.
