NextGen Air Traffic Control roundtable slated
February 26,2014 Wednesday  General Aviation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The House Subcommittee on Aviation, chaired by U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), will hold a roundtable policy discussion on Thursday, Feb. 27, on the FAA’s efforts to address the NextGen Advisory Committee’s (NAC) recommendations for developing the Next Generation Air Transportation System.

Over the last decade, the FAA has been developing and implementing NextGen. While the FAA has made some progress, the agency has also experienced significant setbacks, including cost overruns and program delays, according to committee members.

In July 2013, the FAA tasked the committee with reviewing the agency’s plans and activities that have an effect on the NextGen implementation and develop a prioritized list of consensus recommendations.

Thursday’s roundtable will examine the FAA’s implementation of the NAC recommendations.

The roundtable is open to the public, and is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building. It will not be webcast.

In addition to subcommittee members, roundtable participants will include:

  • Michael Whitaker, Deputy Administrator and Chief NextGen Officer, FAA
  • Matt Hampton, Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Aviation, Department of Transportation, Office of Inspector General
  • Captain Steve Dickson, Co-Chair, RTCA NextGen Advisory Committee
